The Foundation for Environmental Education has been handing out it's Blue Flags once again to those beaches it considers are the cleanest and safest. This year Spain came top with 77 flags for its marinas and a whopping 499 for it's beaches.
The panel awarded the Balearics with 61 flags and iBiza with 18 an amazing achievement given it only 45km by 25km.
They awarded over 3000 flag to thirty six countries across the world including South Africa, New Zealand and the Caribbean. I'd hate to be a judge on that panel. The flag is a symbol of quality.
The judging criteria deal with amongst others water quality, environmental management environmental education and information.
In iBiza the beaches with blue flags are -
- Cala Tarida,
- Cala Conta,
- Cala Bassa,
- Cala DHort,
- Cala Migjorn
- Cala Vadella,
- Cala Llenya, es Canar,
- Cala Llonga,
- Santa Eulalia beach and es Figueral.
- San Miguel,
- Cala San Vicent,
- Portinax and Benirras,
- Cala Gracio,
- es Calo des Moro
- and es Pouet
